The mandate requires that all individuals age 2 years and older wear a face covering in all indoor settings regardless of vaccination status.Retailers are required to inform the public of the requirement by posting signs at the entrance and utilize other tools that may be available such as a PA system. Otherwise, retailers are NOT required to remove patrons or prohibit patrons from entering the premise if they refuse to wear a mask. This is an important departure from the previous mask mandate. That being said, local municipalities may require retail enforcement, such as Cook County and Chicago. IRMA continues to highlight that approach as misguided and dangerous.
The mandate currently does not include any additional business restrictions, i.e. capacity restrictions or arbitrary classifications of essential or non-essential retail.
